Angelina Jolie has slammed the US government for spending millions on military operations in Iraq, insisting that the same would have been better utilized on education.
Speaking at the Clinton Global Initiative, an event organized by Bill Clinton to address the most pressing global concerns, Jolie urged the world to “prioritize in order”.
The UN goodwill ambassador insisted that an entire UNICEF appeal for educational needs would cost only as much as eight hours’ spending in Iraq - and would help benefit 150,000 children.
“The entire appeal equals about eight hours of current spending in Iraq. So just a few hours would send 150,000 children to school,” she said.
“Nothing wins more hearts and minds and nothing gives more freedom than education; and nothing is a better deterrent for conflict than an educated child,” she added.

British Foreign Secretary To Meet With Angelina Jolie
Angelina Jolie is keeping up her part as goodwill ambassador for the UN by planning to meet with British Foreign Secretay David Miliband this week to discuss global diplomacy, the AP reports.
“He will meet Angelina Jolie in New York,” a spokeswoman said Tuesday. Miliband has been seeking to soften Britain’s image in the foreign policy arena after getting involved with the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.
The AP also reports that Jolie will soon appear on a revamped Foreign Office Web site, because she’s just not famous enough.

Brangelina To Adopt From Burmese Orphanage
Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt are set to adopt a baby from Burma.The couple have reportedly enlisted the help of Dr Jane Aronson, who runs the Worldwide Orphans Foundation, and a leading Burmese monk to help arrange visits to local orphanages in the war-torn country.Angelina and Brad - who already have three adopted children, Cambodian boy Maddox, six, Vietnamese son Pax, three, and Ethiopian girl Zahara, two, and a 16-month-old biological daughter Shiloh together - are said to be desperate to find a girl to help Zahara feel more settled within the family.
As well as adopting a child from the region, Angelina also wants to use her role as a UN Goodwill Ambassador to help Burma.
A source is quoted as saying: “Angelina feels she is barely making a dent in the suffering she sees throughout the Third World as she travels incognito to different countries as a United Nations representative.
“She’s in talks to go into Burma and help with students and AIDS victims who are suffering terribly.”
Angelina, 32, has made no secret of her desire to expand her family, previously saying: “I want to create a rainbow family. That’s children of different religions and cultures, from different countries.
“I believe I’m meant to find my children in the world somewhere and not necessarily have them genetically. I like to think with every adoption I’m saving another child from an orphanage.”

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s adopted daughter may have to undergo surgery on her hip.Zahara, who the couple adopted from Ethiopia in 2005, reportedly has hip dysplasia - a hereditary disease that can cause crippling lameness and painful arthritis, and is commonly found in dogs - and her parents are said to be considering an operation that will cure it.
The condition means two-year-old Zahara’s thigh bone is not properly connected to her hip, which may affect her ability to walk and she could need braces to help re-set her limb.
A source told America’s Star magazine: “Brad and Angelina have talked with their paediatrician, who told them Zahara may need to have surgery. They will do whatever it takes to ensure she is happy and healthy.”
